Students will listen to identify topic, main idea, and supporting details. They will also segment words into phonemes and read and write words with the vowel pairs ai, and ay. Students will identify, read and write the words that make up a compound word. They will recognize new high-frequency words: clothes, guess, and order. Finally, students will identify special nouns (proper nouns) that names a certain person, place, or thing.

** Good things to Know:Students should remember when they come to a word that they do not know they should look carefully at the word. Look for word parts they know and think about the sounds of the letters and blend the sounds to read the word. They should also ask themselves : Is it a word I know? Does it make sense in what I am reading? If not, ask yourself: What else can I try?
